Behind the Story- An Instrument for Florenda

Close your eyes and imagine the sound of a clarinet, the smooth and mellow tone that transports you to another world. This beautiful instrument is a part of the woodwind family, producing its distinctive sound with a thin piece of wood known as a reed. The reed is attached to the mouthpiece, and as you blow air across it, it begins to vibrate, creating the signature clarinet sound. By covering and uncovering the holes on the instrument with your fingers and utilizing the keys, you can adjust the pitch and create a wide range of notes.

As I pulled out my clarinet today, memories of my middle school years came flooding back. I was part of the first band class in our small rural school, and it was here that I fell in love with the clarinet. This captivating instrument inspired me to write the book An Instrument for Florenda. This book follows the story of a young girl who dreams of playing an instrument in her school band, the clarinet. Throughout the book, Florenda expresses her love for the instrument through a beautiful poem titled My Clarinet, capturing the excitement and joy of learning to play.

Playing an instrument is a remarkable experience that combines hard work and fun. The thrill of learning something new and mastering it can be incredibly rewarding. If you've ever dreamt of playing an instrument, why not make it a reality? Whether it's the clarinet, guitar, or piano, the possibilities are endless. And if you're in need of inspiration, check out the book trailer for An Instrument for Florenda. It's a story that will remind you of the power of determination and the beauty of pursuing your passions.
